Semarang International School was created in 1982 by a group of parents who recognised the need for an international school in Semarang. The school is the only officially registered, non-profit international school in Semarang.

One of the things people first notice about our school is the warm and caring family atmosphere. An advantage of being a small school is that staff, students and families get to know each other well and children receive individual attention.

Our students come from a diverse range of backgrounds. We currently have different nationalities represented at our school and we celebrate this priceless cultural resource . Students soon understand and appreciate friends and classmates belonging to different cultural and religious groups. Semarang International School is a non-profit, secular school. The school is cooperatively managed by a Foundation, a School Board and the Principal.

Semarang International School is presided over by an elected Board of Governors. The board is elected by foundation members who are fee paying parents/guardians of students at Semarang International School.

The Board determines overall policy and strategy for the school as defined in its formal constitutional document.

The Main Building

The Preschool and Kindergarten are located in the main building of the school with appropriate sized furniture and manipulatives to support academic growth in all areas.  They are colorful and lively environments that promote active learning and support pre-literacy, writing and math skills.  The Reception/Year One class is currently in the main building as well, but will be making the move to the second building in the coming school year.

The main building also holds a multi-purpose hall where Assemblies are held on a weekly basis and where students eat lunch.  PE classes are held in the hall when it is either too hot or rainy.  The main office is also in the main building and is the heart of our school, an area always bustling and filled with friendly faces.

The Second Building

The second building will consist of three large and attractive classrooms that hold our primary students.  The classrooms are dynamic learning environments that support learning in all subject areas.  This building also holds a school library, science room and music and media room to support student learning.

The Toddler Classroom is also in the second building of the school with their own, child-friendly play area attached.  The Toddler Classroom aims to have a variety of manipulatives to help develop the skill set for our youngest children to succeed in their school environment.
