Marea is a newly qualified Early Childhood Teacher who graduated in 2009 from the University of Waikato in New Zealand. Prior to coming to Semarang Marea held the position of head teacher of the preschool class for a privately owned early childhood centre in New Zealand. In addition to this qualification Marea has a Bachelor of Social Sciences’ majoring in psychology of which she obtained in 2004 from the same University. Marea has travelled to Semarang with her family including her husband Jason, her seven year old son Iraia and her one year old daughter Lucy. Marea is also expecting her third child who will be a Semarang Christmas baby due to arrive in December. Marea is passionate about early childhood education and believes that these years are the most important years of any child’s life and the learning moments the child experiences at this stage really do pave a path for their future learning and development. For her the true rewards of this profession are watching the excitement a child experiences when they achieve a milestone or learn something new. She is fortunate to have witnessed this first-hand with the raising of her own children. Marea is a great believer in building responsive and reciprocal relationships with the child, and their families as this paves a strong foundation for an encouraging learning environment where a child feels secure, supported and respected. Marea has an ‘open-door’ policy and is looking forward to working with you and your children in the new school year.

Our Preschool and Kindergarten programs cater for children from 3 to 5 years of age. Our curriculums are carefully planned to meet the needs of these children.
Semarang International School places great value on the importance of the early years of education. The most important learning years of a child’s life are between birth and five years. During this time children are constantly learning and it is vital to provide an environment that stimulates their physical, social, intellectual, emotional development as well as their creativity and imagination.
An important aim is to establish an environment where children develop a positive self-image and attitude towards school and a sense of responsibility for self and others through cooperation with teachers and classmates. Carefully structured play is an invaluable way to stimulate all areas of development for young children. Play, together with ongoing instruction, is used as a vehicle for learning in our Early Years programs. Children are provided with a wide variety of stimulating activities to develop early concepts and skills of literacy, numeracy, music and movement, science, art and craft and technology.
